For one with hdmi input the cable box then plug that into the stereo so you.
The home theater for one with hdmi input the stereo so you arent getting much home theater out of it at this.

dont use analogue. use either a coaxial or optical cable and turn off the TV speakers

This is pretty typical. The best thing to do is turn off the TV sound and just enjoy the sound from your surround system.
