Entertaining Your Friends And Family With Projectors Screens

Posted: under House and Home.

So what makes a perfect home theater video projector? Ideally, you will want to look at projector screens that will reflect the projected image back to you just as it comes out of the video projector, with no color bias, resolution hindrance, contrast disruption or hot-spotting. If you’re looking for a fixed screen, craftsmanship won’t be as big of an issue; however, you’ll be sorry if you cheap out on a mechanical screen.

When you’re looking at projectors screens for your home theater, you’ll generally want to choose a front projection screen because it’s versatile and fits in any room.

However, for a business presentation using a multimedia projector, a rear projection screen might be preferred because you can use other visuals, move around in front of the screen without casting shadows, and allow some light into the room without diminishing the contrast.

You can also choose between a fixed screen, which affixes permanently to the wall of a home theater using special projector mounts, and a retractable screen, which is better for multi-use spaces with limited room. The motion screens will cost more money and you will need to pay special attention to craftsmanship to ensure it lasts as long as the rest of your video projection equipment.

You will also notice that there are white and gray projector screens. By far, the most popular type of screen is the matte white style designed for dark theater rooms. If you’re bent on creating the perfect movie atmosphere, then you’ll need dark walls, carpeting, ceiling paint, furniture and curtains.

If there is absolutely no ambient light coming from lamps or windows, just like in a commercial theater, then your best option is a white screen and a high contrast video projector.

However, if you are setting up your system in a living room, entertainment room or family room, then the light may reflect off the screen, off the light elements in the room and back to the projection screen again. With a gray screen, you’ll be able to keep consistent black levels on the screen and keep unwanted light refraction out.

In addition to projector screens, you may also be interested in a product called “Goo Systems,” which is a special projector screen paint that you apply to a flat wall or board surface to create the perfect screen. The “installation” will take you about a day as you put on two base coats and two top coats.

There are also contractors who can install this and your kit will give you a black felt tape border that you may put up if you so desire. You’ll find the color balance to be impressively accurate and the kit costs just $230!

Other top performing projection screens include: Grandview Fixed Frame White, Da-lite Screen Company’s Affinity HD or the Stewart Grayhawk RS.

MarioItalian asked:

I just bought a home theater from Sony and it’s really nice. The amplifier included is a Sony DVD Player with all the speakers connected on the back. Except there is only an output plug for the tv and there is no other plug to connect something else. Can I buy an other amplifier so that I can use the speakers with all the stuff I own(Satellite, iPod, Xbox, DVD)? Or is there another easier way?

I am looking to buy a Home Theater system. I don’t want to spend over $200 and I don’t need a DVD player. Does anyone know what a good inexpensive brand to buy? I really want something that sounds awesome when I watch movies. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How do I know what kind of speakers I have in my home theater?

Jim I asked:

About ten years ago I bought a home theater system from a buddy of mine strapped for cash. I bought a receiver, tape deck, five-disc player with two large speakers.

Large = 20.5″x16″x36″. They are carpeted, and have a large hole on the bottom to put a pole up into. There are carrying handles on either side, and the speakers must weigh 70-80 lbs.

The fronts are identical. Vertically, there are two circles with nipples in them (sorry, have no idea how else to describe), then a horizontal opening, then a large round “speaker” at the bottom.

There’s no markings on them on the outside, and I don’t want to tear into them too deep without knowing what I have.

The reason I want to know what to look for is because I want to sell the set-up, and need to know what I have.

Any help, websites, or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Bridget

Aliree P asked:

I am looking for a mid cost projector that I can use for a home theater. It needs to have hook-ups for all gaming systems and dvd players as well. I would like to find one that last a long time or the replacement bulbs are reasonable. This projector would be used every day. Picture quality is very important. Is there anything out there like this? I am a little confused by all the different projectors.

I recently replaced all the speakers and dashboard in my camry with new equipment(sony). It sounds amazing but doesn’t kick enough. My dad has this really nice home theater subwoofer that he gave me. Could I put that in my car? Its like a $250 sub.

I am looking for a good quality home theater system as a present for my son. Every time I find something I think might be good, I find there are some horribly bad ratings by consumers. Has anyone bought one up to the 500-dollar range that they like, can play games, listen to music, TV, easy to install, and all around nice sound that won’t break down in a month or two?
Thanks!

I live in a nice suburb and have a large speaker 5.1 home theater. BUT, when DVD soundtracks go from a whisper to ear pain, how can you avoid noise complaints from the neighbors ?
