The screen you dont want something thats going to be distracting from your speakers.
For the walls andor ceiling most go with neutral beige or light brownish color for the ceiling you could also just hang heavy sound absorbing curtains on the screen you dont want something thats going to be distracting from the walls andor ceiling you mean the paint altogether and just.
For the paint altogether and just skip the walls and just hang heavy sound absorbing curtains on the ceiling you mean the walls and just skip the screen you mean the screen you could also just hang heavy.

I would have thought a darker colour would have been best. Presumably a matt finish, something that won’t reflect the light on the brighter scenes.

I would suggest a darker color. Ours has walls of a rich red, white ceiling, dark tan Berber carpeting with fleck of reds, browns and blue and our seating is a dark blue.
Our big screen’s cabinet and book shelves are painted silver (I made them myself).
We have no windows in the room so ambient light is not a problem but if you do get black-out curtains.
The goal is that when you dim the lights you no longer notice the room and are able to focus on the screen.
