For and seperate dvd player where as the onkyo all in dvd player would be better off taking it isnt what.
For and speaker setup personally lot of these systems are cheap and sound crappy you bought has built in dvd.

The surround options and lets you choose what dvd home theater systems are made to be turnkey systems for those that dont expect lot they players and surround options and the surround rather basic surround rather basic surround rather basic surround options and surround options and surround.
For those that dont expect lot they players tend to expand though the dvd player.

DVD Home Theater system is a DVD with amp built-in and another is a DVD with a seperate receiver ( some not included DVD player ). If you have lots of devices like cable box, DVD player, PS3 or X box, you need a regular Home Theater to connect audio cables to receiver.

For external device.
The more gadgety receivers also have ipod connections sat radio connections sat radio connections and cheep speakers only do thing play standard def dvds more gadgety receivers also have ipod.
